Paula Bisphan - The Poet

Paula has been writing poetry since she was a teenager. Paula had her first poetry book published in 1993, and the Hamilton City Library bought the first copy. Later she sold many of her poetry books to schools, businesses, and shops as they were highly sought after, and many people in the community asked her to write a 2nd book as they enjoyed the first poetry book so much. Paula subsquently came up with the idea of creating scenic poetry DVD's, to provide more impact and a wider appeal. With her poetry in harmony with the Waikato scenery, she has now written over 600 original poems, with all kinds of themes.

"I want to achieve, and assist all primary school children in New Zealand. By helping them to improve their literacy skills. My scenic poetry DVD"s can also be used as a creative inspirational teaching resource, for all primary school children across the nation. Especially Maori children, and those children with special needs., as I have worked with special needs children as a Teacher Aide, and I have seen them struggle with the basic skills, of writing, spelling, English, reading, writing, and speech, and poetry. This is the Trust"s new iniative, that I have created through my love of poetry and my passion for assisting young children, so that they can be better equipped in coping at their level and give them the vital skills that they will need to stand them in good stead for their future adult years, so they can mature into confident young adults.

I have several schools ready to buy my DVD's now once they are completed for this purpose.

My original poems are bilingual and this is a very important component, my poems harmonise with the local scenery, and the children can identify with the various locations so this will also be like having a geography leeson and poetry in one.

The number of primary school children targeted in New Zealand is 170, 820, and the number of primary school children targeted in the Waikato region is 20, 231, including Maori children and special needs.
